The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission is responding to Executive Order 14300 of May 23, 2025 directing the NRC to reconsider the underlying basis of RADIATION DOSE calculations and consider doing away with the Linear-No-Threshold (LNT) radiation model and the goal of As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) and considering pretending there is a threshold or level below which there is no need to regulate (that is essentially reviving the Congressionally overturned Below Regulatory Concern policies of 1986 and 1990.
This Executive Order is clearly in response to nuclear polluters and promoters who want to legalize higher doses to the public so that nuclear facilities can release more radiation. Cleanup standards would be weakened to save money for the nuclear industry and government agencies making nuclear power and weapons, routinely releasing radioactivity into our air, water, soil, ecosystems and DNA and treating, dumping or dergulating the long-lasting deadly radioactive waste.
