Dear Friends in Illinois,
Last week we alerted you to the scheme in the Illinois legislature for you and other Illinois ratepayers to pay more on your electric bills to bail out Exelon’s aging, money-losing nuclear reactors.
Exelon’s bailout proposal is particularly galling since the legislature also has bills before it to encourage clean renewable energy and create thousands of new jobs–without propping up nuclear reactors that continue to generate tons of radioactive waste while posing constant threat of nuclear meltdown.
THANK YOU from NIRS and Illinois’ Nuclear Energy Information Service (NEIS) to everyone who has taken action so far. Illinois legislators have received more than 900 letters from you.
But we can and need to do better. If you haven’t yet sent your letter to your legislators, please do so now here.
If you already have sent your letter, please let your friends, colleagues, community listservs, PTA lists, church listservs, Facebook friends, and everyone else you can think of know about this action.
This is the link to the action page: http://org2.salsalabs.com/o/5502/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=19803 Copy it. Save it. And please share it as widely as you can.
And you can easily post our original March 16 alert on Facebook and Twitter. You can do so here. Just use the Facebook and Twitter icons at the top of the alert to post it on your feeds.
No one wants to pay more for electricity than they have to. And Exelon’s failed nuclear reactors simply aren’t needed in Illinois–that’s why they’re losing so much money. Your friends and neighbors will appreciate the opportunity to let their legislators know how they feel.
What happens in Illinois will reverberate across the country. If we can block Exelon’s nuclear bailout here, we’ll block them everywhere else they’re trying the same tricks. But winning this critical battle will take all of you in Illinois acting and helping spread the word.
Again, if you haven’t yet sent your letter to your legislators, please do so now here.
And, Please. Share. Widely. Together, we can stop Exelon and build a clean, affordable energy system based on renewable energy and efficiency in Illinois and across the country.
Thank you so much for all you do,
Michael Mariotte
