Join the Virtual March on Washington!
International Radioactive Waste Action Day is a call for coordinated resistance, another way we can work together to speak out about the dangers of radioactive waste, with the simple demand: Radioactive Waste: Stop Making It!
This Fall, Action Day was Wednesday, September 29, 2010. It’s a lead-in to a larger Action Day in April 2011 to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. And it was a tremendous success! Here is a partial list of events held around the world. Check out the slideshow below! (note: you can just let the slideshow play, but if you click on it instead, the photos will be larger and you can see captions for some of them, and leave comments).
Inspired by the actions of September 29, for the April Action Day we’re sponsoring an International Virtual March on Washington! No matter where you live in the world, you can take part, and it’s easy and fun! Here’s how:
1. Download and print one of the signs below, or make one of your own;
2. Hold your sign in front of you and have your partner or a friend take your photo.
3. Then give the sign to your friend and take a photo of her.
4. Then e-mail both photos (or as many photos of as many friends as you have!) to nirs@nirs.org.
We’ll add every photo we receive into the slideshow below and put together a photo petition to present to the Department of Energy’s Blue Ribbon Commission on America’s Nuclear Future in April! Think of it as a virtual march on Washington–a way you can have your say to this Commission that seems far more interested in finding ways to make more lethal radioactive waste than in finding solutions to the waste problem we already have.
