City of Port Jervis, New York September 23, 1996 WHEREAS, the Department of Energy plans to move high level radioactive nuclear waste near the City of Port Jervis, as early as 1998 should HR 1020, Senate Bill 167, or other similar legislation become enacted by the United States Congress; and WHEREAS, we oppose radioactive waste transportation over I-84 past the City of Port Jervis as posing a potential threat to the Citizens of the City of Port Jervis and the surrounding communities; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Common Council of the City of Port Jervis opposes HR 1020, Senate Bill 167 and any other similar legislation that would require radioactive waste transportation in, on, or through any public highways near the City of Port Jervis. I, James Hinkley, Treasurer of the City of Port Jervis, hereby certify that I have compared the foregoing with the original resolution adopted by the Council of the City of Port Jervis at a regular meeting held 9/23/96, and that it is true and a correct copy of such original.
