Background Report 5    November 7th

Castor Departure Date Set

The train with the largest-ever shipment of 12 laden Castors is now scheduled to leave the loading station at Valognes, France at 7 p.m. next Monday, November 11th. A last-minute court appeal has been filed, with documentation proving that the type of Castors being used for this transport is unauthorised. But unless the court rules otherwise, the shipment will go ahead.

Could You Help to Reach the Media?

Yesterday  we received an e-mail from a reporter who works for a major international news network. We had written him because only last summer, he published a background story on reactor security. His answer:  he was too busy to get involved because he now has other assignments, and he added that "my editor is not too keen on waste issues."  The attitude of his editor is not unusual -- it can be explained by the enormous economic and political pressures coming from the atomic industry, which tend to throttle the media.

In the Castor Diary, you will be getting the unbiased truth.  But if this is not to remain just" insider information", we must get our story out to the public.  Somewhere there may be "holes" in the media blanket -- editors that have not been reached, or are unreachable.  We count on our readers to help us find uncompromised media editors who have not yet been bought or frightened into silence.
