August Events in Southeast: Action Camp and Energy Expo

NIRS Southeast Office
AUGUST EVENTS near Asheville, NC:

Climate Action Camp August 8 – 14 Southern Energy and Environment Expo August 24, 25, 26

NIRS is pleased to invite you to join us at two major events in August:

The Southeast Convergence for Climate Action (action camp) is a week-long (August 8 – 14) training in confronting the false solutions for the global climate crisis, including nuclear energy – as well as democracy skills, direct-action training and community life. An intergenerational event -- come for all or part; registration fee is nominal -- but please, no drop-ins. Directions will be sent to those who register at: http://www.climateconvergence.org/southeast/register.php. The schedule of workshop sessions is also posted on this web site. Location is 30 minutes Southwest of Asheville, North Carolina. Space is limited – and time is short. Call Mary Olson, 828-675-1792 or nirs@main.nc.us if you have questions.

The Southern Energy and Environment Expo (http://www.seeexpo.com/) August 24, 25, 26, now in its 7th year, is the largest renewable energy event in the South, and second only to the annual Midwest Renewable Energy Association event in Wisconsin. The Expo, located at the WNC Agricultural Center across the road from the Asheville / Hendersonville regional airport, features hundreds of booths with displays, demonstrations and information, as well as a packed schedule of workshops. NIRS Southeast will be offering a session on why nuclear energy is a false solution to climate change (see: http://www.nirs.org/climate/background/climatetalk_mary_un_050306.htm). The Common Sense at the Nuclear Crossroads Campaign (CSNC, of which NIRS is a proud member) will be offering a workshop on projected new maps showing projected transport routes for high-level radioactive waste if it is brought to South Carolina under the new Global Nuclear Energy Partnership instead of heading west to Yucca, see: http://www.nirs.org/press/05-22-2007/1 ). NIRS will be partnering with Physicians for Social Responsibility of Western North Carolina and CSNC – for a major display and info zone at the Expo! Hope to see you! NIRS Southeast Office
